PORT MORESBY: Commerce and Industry Minister and Tambul Nebilyer  MP Win Bakri Daki Parliament’s proposal for a K50 billion loan has sparked intense debate, with some critics questioning his approach. However, many of these critics may not be aware of Daki’s background and the thinking behind his proposal.

Speaking in Parliament, Daki emphasized the need for drastic measures to stimulate economic growth. “Why settle for small loans that yield minimal results?” he asked. “Let’s think big and get a K50 billion loan to distribute to all sectors, with a clear work plan and repayment strategy.”

In a passionate plea to Prime Minister James Marape, Minister Daki urged the government to secure a massive K50 billion loan to resuscitate Papua New Guinea’s ailing economy. We summarised his recent proposal and shed some light on his mindset for PNGā€™s economic growth challenge.

Loan Proposal

“Why don’t we get a K50 billion kina loan, Prime Minister? Distribute K1 billion to each sector, create a work plan, and a repayment plan, ” Daki asked Prime Minister James Marape.

Understanding Loans

“As someone with a business background, I understand that when we get more loans, our businesses grow. A big loan means fast growth. However, we need to grasp the concept of loans and repayment plans. Our country needs to move forward quickly.”

Importance of Repayment Plans

“A loan, whether big or small, is useless without a repayment plan. We must create a work plan and a repayment plan to ensure the loan is fruitful. Let’s not just talk about loans; let’s get the loan and create a plan.”

Papua New Guinea’s Resources

“We have abundant resources: coffee, cocoa, fish, and forests. Why not get a K50 billion loan and distribute it to each sector? Create a work plan, repayment plan, and decide who pays what.”

Economic Growth

“With this approach, our country will grow. Let’s not play politics with loan sizes. If we get a big loan, our country will prosper. I’m speaking in Pidgin, and I know the people understand.”

Repayment and Growth

“Get each department to repay their loans based on what they receive. With more loans, we can improve services like Air Niugini, get more planes, and increase cash flow. We can also acquire more ships.
