K5million Hospital Upgrade for Kila Kila

PORT MORESBY: THE Moresby South District Hospital at Kila Kila will undergo construction of a new K5 million internal fit out to meet the National Department of Health (NDOH) requirement.
The District hospital was constructed at a cost of K12 million with an additional K3 million internal fit out. The hospital left idle for a few years was due to it not meeting the NDOH required standards of having staff and serving the local communities. The health department upon assessment in 2024 had requested for a completely new internal fit out to be constructed. Following this, an architect was engaged and new internal fit out was designed.

This was further delayed again due to funding not being made available in 2024. Moresby South MP and Foreign Affairs Minister Justin Tkatchenko MP, confirmed that the Health Department on May 5, and onwards sign off on the drawings of the new internal fit out that will be professionally re-constructed. He added that it is a very important infrastructure development, funded by National Capital District Commission and Moresby South Electorate. Tkatchenko said the design and construction of the hospital had been going on for five years now despite delays with landowner issues.

“These delays had caused us great grief in completing this very important project for our people of Moresby South. We have gone through the proper processes now and we will be waiting this week for the Health Department to sign off the drawings of the new internal fit out. I would like to see this Moresby South District hospitalofficially opened by September 16th this year to celebrate 50 years of our country’s independence anniversary as guaranteed by Health Minister Elias Kapavore MP.
“I want to say a big thank you to the NCD Governor Powes Parkop MP, and NCDC for incorporating K5 Million from this
year’s NCDC budget for the District Hospital with the opening in the coming months,” Tkatchenko stated. ENDS
